Dutch uncover diary of Nazi camp

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3760680.stm

I was trying to come up with a name for my main character in my story for NaNoWriMo. I decided I liked the name Helga and typed it into the browser to find out its origins. I found this chilling story of a victim of the Nazi's. Now I'm sad and need a break from writing.

Ya know, we all think we have it bad. We are in a recession, healthcare sucks, our internet is on the fritz, we can't afford the next Call of Duty, we missed VAMPS in concert because we couldn't afford to fly out the shows, school stress is driving me to smoke after I just quit . Well, stories like 18 year old Helga Deen's really brings things into perspective, doesn't it.

This is for Helga and for all those who've suffered oppression, unjust imprisonment, persecution, and genocide...

In the courtyard, birds singing
Through the window, bells ringing
Oh so tall and wide, these confining walls
I look upon the world below

Sorrow seals our lips tightly
Horror stalks our sleep nightly
But my heart escapes from this attic room
I'm running freely though the town

I remember, remember you
I remember, still close to you
No need to fear the distance here

Peace is shattered by oppression
Tainted oil meets rejection
Yes and just in case I should soon return
My secret letters I will leave

I remember, remember you
I remember, still close to you
No need to fear the distance here

Boarding the train I'm taking one last look
I'll keep these memories with me forever.

We don't have it that bad after all, do we.

happy birthday [info]jackdante!!! Hope you had a good one:)

I just got home 20 minutes ago after driving all over Kentucky looking for the high school where the football game was. I got lost. We were scared driving around back woods Kentucky. We became even more scared when the low fuel light came on. After all, who wants to stop for gas in the middle of no-where?

Well, what's important is that we're home safe now. Too bad we missed the game though...

Finale...

location: in dreamland with L'Arc~en~Ciel
mood: in love
music: The Nanny

Ok, I've decided that this video, older though it may be, has not received enough attention from me. I need to work this out myself. Just get all the swooning, fangirling, crying, and panty creaming out of my system before I can move on. This is probably the most romantic video I've seen from L'Arc~en~Ciel. The fact that the 4 of them are the only ones in the video make it that much more intimate. And it's definately one of the best lyric-wise. If I hadn't already heard Kasou, Forbidden Lover, Hitomi no Juunin, or Jojoushi I would definately have to say it's the most romantic song ever. You'd have to be made of stone not to feel this song.

I silently embrace the faint, fleeting beauty
So it won't be broken
Seeking her in the moon's hiding place
Feeling the pain of fate
While I was blocking out the creeping worry
I touched her mouth, filled with the sorrow of being driven into the corner
Amidst the rays of light, I face the finale
It's far too bright to see ahead to tomorrow
I watch you as you turned your head and flew across time
Still but an innocent little girl
You'll wake up in these arms from now on
Your sorrow is just unfortunate
Loving you to the brink of insanity
So we're never apart, stay next to me forever
Painted in a downpour of sins
I continue wandering around a worn path
I won't let anyone touch this love
I'll even defy god
The you in the mirror, with your upside down smile,
Cut the thread of the seemingly interrupted dream
Sinking in that prayer for an eternity
Wavering on the surface of the water without an answer
I can't save you as you crumble to pieces
So I put you to sleep in order to calm you, that time
Amidst the rays of light that face the finale
It's far too bright to see ahead to tomorrow
I watch you as you turned your head and flew across time
Still but an innocent little girl

It was a great time! We had balcony seats. I got talked to by security for taking pictures with my camera because my camera was too big... (-_-) Apparently only skinny cameras were aloud. I don't understand because they take the same kinda pictures. Anyway, for that reason, I didn't take as many pictures as I could've.

Oh, and no cut... sorry. Enjoy my Wiggly pictures!

Relatives Say Standoff Suspect Targeted Ex-Girlfriend
Brent Works Died After A 12-Hour Standoff In Jeffersontown

WLKY.com
updated 4:46 p.m. ET, Wed., July 8, 2009
JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. - WLKY.com

A 12-hour hostage standoff ended early Tuesday morning with the apparent suicide of the suspect.

Police said the hostage was the owner of the Jeffersontown business where the standoff took place. The owner escaped unharmed.

The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Brent Works. The coroner said Works died of a single gunshot wound to the head which police believe was self-inflicted.

Early Tuesday morning, Works’ brother received a phone call telling him Brent was being rushed to the hospital.

“I started getting dressed to go down there because I wanted to talk to my brother,” said Charles Works.

Charles Works was overcome with emotion as he talked about his brother, Brent.

Monday afternoon, police said Brent Works went to Lyndon Millwork Incorporated and took the owner hostage.

A robot was sent inside with food and a phone.

Several family members spoke to Brent Works to try to convince him to surrender, including his brother Derek from prison.

Charles Works didn't get that chance.

“Come home because we love you. This is where home has always been and that's where you should be,” is what Charles Works said he would have told his brother if given the chance.

Instead, at about 3:30 a.m., police heard a single gunshot, the hostage escaped unharmed and Brent Works was discovered on the floor with a gunshot wound to his head.

He was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he died.

“This is not the outcome we've liked to have had,” said Jeffersontown Police Maj. Chris McIntire. ”Unfortunately, the end result was beyond our control. It was up to the suspect all along.”

“Brent is known for crazy things. He's known for crazy things. I wouldn't put anything past him, but I didn't think he would hold someone against their will,” said Charles Works.

Charles Works believes Brent's ex-girlfriend was the target of his anger. She works at the plant where the standoff took place.

Court records show Brent's girlfriend obtained an emergency protection order against him in January which specifically stated he have no contact with her and no guns.

Brent Works already had a pending case for violating that order before the standoff.

“We always butted heads. We just really started getting along this past year. I really wish I would've gotten to know him a little bit better maybe I could've resolved some of this, maybe not,” said Charles Works.

Brent Works is the father of two children. He left behind a 14-year-old daughter and a son who turned 9 years old Tuesday.

The story at this link is someone I know. He was best friends with Mike. From what I'd been told he'd always had lady problems but was never violent. I'd met him once. He came over to the house last year or maybe the year before, I think. He hadn't been out of prison long and was planning to move in with another friend of his who'd broke up with his girlfriend.

One of the times Mike cheated on me he'd tried to use Brent as an alibi but I saw through it.

I don't think Brent was violent at all. He's never been known to hurt people but because of his criminal record I guess people would just assume that he would. And him holding someone hostage obviously didn't help.

I feel bad for him and for his family. He's left his kids fatherless. I wish this situation could've been avoided. However bad his problems were I'd think that they could've been dealt with in a different way.

Mike grew up with Brent. He said he was a very good basketball player, only dated black girls, liked playing practical jokes on people, and at one time had a box cut. He did serve time as an adult for non-payment of child support, and apparently at one time his children's mother got a protective order against him for harrassing phone calls.

I wish things would've turned out differently for him.

For those who've died. And a tribute to MJ

Jul. 5th, 2009 | 06:39 pm

mood: sad sad
music: Sowelu's "To You"

It's been a minute since i've updated. And everybody's dying.

In a short period of time david carradine, ed mcmahon, farrah fawcett, mike jackson, and Billy mays (the kaboom guy) have all died. of course it's natural ne human nature to moarn the passing of someone. And, with the exception of the kaboom guy, all of those celebrities played a part in my childhood, whether large or small.

Ed McMahon
I think alot of kids dreamed of being on starsearch. i used to watch that show alot. however, I think what I remember the most of ed mcmahon was that he did some publisher's clearing house commercials. he would show up at the winner's house with a huge check and a bunch of people with balloons and stuff, cheering that you'd won ten million dollars. eventually I began receiving the offers in the mail for publisher's clearing house. All you needed to do was order so many magazines and that increased your chances of winning the millions. So, despite the fact that my grandmother had done this for years and never won, I decided to order the magazines. I did this for a while before I finally realized that I would likely never win.
May he rest in peace.

Farrah Fawcett
Farrah was a beautiful woman and great actress. I watched her on charlie's angels back in the day. I'd always wanted to have her hair. It was so pretty. She was also in a movie (I think on NBC) where she played a hooker back in the day. The setting was back when people used carriages pulled by horses 'n such. And women got up at the crack of dawn to make bread and wore only dresses. Anyway, Lea Thompson was a wife and mother of 3 that had some terminal disease. She knew she would die soon so she began shopping around for a replacement wife and mother for her family. She found this hooker(played by farrah) and barely had to ask twice before farrah agreed to do it. It was a real tear jerker. I can't remember the name of the movie, it was so long ago when I saw it.
May she rest in peace.

David Carradine
I don't remember a whole lot of david Carradine from my childhood. I remember him but I never watched his show growing up. I became more familiar with him after watching Dragon: the Bruce Lee story. This is where I'd learned that Bruce Lee lost the role promised to him to David Carradine. And of course, years later he became the notorius Bill that Uma was looking to kill.
May he rest peace.

Billy Mays
In more recent years Billy Mays did infomercials and commercials for kaboom and oxyclean. (btw, both products are worth every penny, they work!) He was a natural salesmen.
May he rest in peace.

And then there's Mike...

The death of Michael Jackson has affected me in ways that I did not expect. In recent years he was the center of jokes, ridicule, and criticism. He was accused of committing crimes against children. He was made fun of because of his constantly changing appearance. And alot of people who loved him turned against him during some low points in his life, like as he increasingly fell deeper into debt, and even faced jail time for the charges against him.

I was one of those who said bad things against him. I didn't hate him. However, I was very disappointed in his behavior. When I saw him tell Oprah that sleeping with other people's children was "sweet" I just didn't feel the same way about him that I did previously. It broke my heart to see my childhood idol say that. Not long after that he had an album come out, I think it was an anniversary record. I refused to buy it. Just as I have refused to buy anything from R. Kelly after learning of his interest in kids.

But whatever my feelings about Mike and whatever his crimes may or may not be, I still cannot deny the impact he had on my life, as well as the lives of millions accross the globe. He played a big part on who I am today. He influenced the music and entertainment world more than any other artist of my time. He paved the road for many other artists in his lifetime and for more to come. And for this reason, I feel as if I must pay him his due respect.

Thriller is the best selling album of all time. It's because of thriller that I learned to spell in elementary school. In 5th grade we had a weekly spelling test. If everyone passed we were aloud to have a popcorn party on Fridays. Every Friday, in the hopes that everyone would pass the spelling test, I brought in my Thriller album to play during the party. That was my incentive.

Carrie Bennington used to come over to my house and we'd do all the choreography for the Beat it video. And of course, EVERYBODY learned the choreography for Thriller. And the moonwalk, look me in the face and tell me you've never tried to do the moonwalk. Everybody tried the moonwalk.

There was a time that I'd spent my allowance money buying every magazine and book Mike was in. My walls had posters of Mike. I wore the "1 glove". I did my hair jerry-curl style. (This was accomplished by moosing/gelling it while wet. My hair was naturaly curly so this worked.) My mom got me the beat it jacket(red with all those zippers). I wore it to school where I was made fun of for wearing it. Looking back now I think the other kids were possibly just jealous.

He was 25 when I was 10. Brooke Shields was 18 when they dated. I loved Brooke Shields too, despite the fact that I wanted Mike for myself. I'd wanted to marry him. I used to imagine that when I turned 18 he would only be 33. We could be together. I used to fantasize about kissing him. I loved him.

Of course I didn't realize back then that Mike would probably not be interested in me like that. As Michael got older he began to show the world a side of him that was... asexual. There were talks of him fathering his children via invitro-fertilization. Why wouldn't he just have sex to impregnate his wife?

The personal side we have little, if any, of
It's no question that Mike had a screwed up childhood. And this I think molded him into the person he became. A succesful, trend setting, pop idol, perfectionist, money maker. On the outside, for many years, he was what everyone wanted to be. Yet, behind closed doors he had virtually a non-existant relationship with certain family members and very likely, few people he could trust. It's possible that he was a lonely person. His first (and in some aspects the only) girlfriend he had was another childhood star who many believe was exploited. Brooke Shields was in 2 films as a minor where she was shown nude. One of those roles she played a child in a brothel. What parent would allow their child to be in a such a position? It seems Brooke and Mike had a lot in common. I think this would bring them together as close friends, having so much in common. Both having had parents that would put their careers above having a "normal" childhood and more importantly, above protecting them from the exploitation of the cameras. But in all the time they were supposedly dating they were never seen kissing or in a romantic embrace, that I remember anyway. And I was one who watched MJ in the media like a hawk.

The artists he influenced
Usher
Justin Timberlake
Madonna
Prince
Corey Feldman
Mariah Carey
Alfonso Ribeiro
Janet Jackson
Chris Tucker
Eddie Griffin
Chris Brown
several choreographers
Weird Al Yankovic

just to name a few... There are thousands ne, millions of people inspired by Mike but I only wanted to name a few. And if you think about all the artists that were inspired by the ones influenced by Mike, it's a never-ending legacy.

Mike did great things. He was the first black artist to have his video played by Mtv. (Billie Jean) He wrote We Are the World. (Which btw I sang in my chorus in the 5th grade concert) He was a very charitable man. He's raised millions of dollars for charities all over the globe. He received recognition from President Reagan. His album Thriller was and still is the best selling record of all time. He introduced the moonwalk to the world. He's performed some of the best songs ever that touched on worldly events and struggles. Man in the mirror, We are the world, and that song from Free Willy (sorry, it's title escapes me at the moment). He's worked with many artists. Paul McCartney, Eddie Murphy, Sherryl Crow, Sean Penn, Welsey Snipes, Diana Ross, Janet Jackson, the rest of the Jackson 5, Heavy D, Jay-Z, Eve, Chris Tucker, Naomi Campbell, Iman, Magic Johnson, Alfonso Ribeiro, McCauley Culkin, just to name a few...

I could probably talk all day about Mike. I just wanted to post something about Mike. Now that he's gone I feel as a piece of my childhood has died. Like my old neighborhood was tore down. Now all I have is memories. (I also have my old vinyl records but they're in storage. And I'd need to buy another record player to listen to them.)

May the King of Pop rest in peace. And moonwalk accross the sky, forever living in the heart and soul of music lovers everywhere.

There's going to be a memorial for MJ at the Staples Center in LA this week. A lottery will be held for those who want to attend. I wish I could go but I'm in Kentucky. And I cannot afford to fly out there. I never saw him live, which I regret now. Unlike my friend Lamont who saw him live in concert twice, the second time paying $300 and something dollars for his ticket. [info]snowdark, you are so lucky to have seen him in concert. You are a part of his history.

His character in the movie is a little annoying but he's soooooo delicious. Omg, the things I wanna do to him.

It's been so long that I cannot remember exactly who the killer is. I think it's the Noxema girl (from Kentucky) but I cannot remember for sure. BTW, what kinda first name is "Cotton"?

Wolverine cannot come out on DVD soon enough. When it does I'd like to use clips/stills from the movie to make some thing sweeeeeet. Maybe against the backdrop of Slipknot? Because Slipknot rocks my sox! And Liev, well he makes me wanna take off my sox, as well as the rest of my clothes.
